ERL launches KL TravelPass

Kuala Lumpur, 8th January 2015 – Express Rail Link Sdn. Bhd. (ERL) launched the KL TravelPass, an integrated smart card ticket that can be used on all major public transportation systems in Kuala Lumpur including the KLIA Ekspres, RapidKL LRT and buses, and the KL Monorail. Targeted at inbound visitors travelling to Kuala Lumpur, the card operates on the Touch ‘n Go platform and can also be used at convenience stores as well as food and beverages outlets that display the Touch ‘n Go sign.

The launch was officiated by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz. Also present at the event were ERL Executive Chairman, YBhg Tan Sri Mohd. Nadzmi Mohd. Salleh, ERL Chief Executive Officer, Noormah Mohd. Noor and Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Karim Md. Lassim.

In his speech, YBhg Tan Sri Mohd. Nadzmi Mohd. Salleh said, “ERL continues to improve and innovate our processes, systems and product offerings and we are therefore delighted to introduce KL TravelPass as it reduces the dependency on cash and offers convenience of a quick boarding.

To the passengers, especially tourists, all their transport tickets are stored in just one card and this will eliminate the time-consuming step of paying for a ticket at the ticket counter or machine every time. All they need to do is tap the card reader at the gates to board the train.

For ERL and other train or bus operators, the smart card solution helps us reduce cash handling costs and ticket distribution.”

Meanwhile YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri in his speech said, “The introduction of KL TravelPass is timely as it coincides with the launch of MyFest 2015. With KL TravelPass, tourists can get around the shopping malls and other attractions in KL easily as most of the places are easily accessible by major public transportation systems.

It is heartening to know that ERL has taken the initiative to support MyFest 2015 through the development of KL TravelPass. The relationship between ERL and Tourism Malaysia began many years ago but only in the past 2 years that the bond grew stronger when ERL participated in Mega Fam programmes organised by Tourism Malaysia.

The ministry and particularly, Tourism Malaysia are truly grateful for the contributions made by ERL in promoting the country to our global friends in the industry. And now, with KL TravelPass, it is easy to see that ERL is clear on their focus and role they intend to continue playing in the tourism front.”

ERL hoped that the KL TravelPass will contribute towards the achievement of 29.4 million tourist arrivals this year by making the tourist travelling experience much smoother and pleasant.
